SAMBA DE LA MUERTE REIMAGINES SHÆLIN'S "BODY" AS PART OF THE FORTHCOMING EXTENDED VERSION OF THEIR "ANA HATA" EP

Following DJ Phantom’s soulful offering to the forthcoming extended version of their “Ana Hata” EP with his rework of “Ain’t No Matter”, neo-soul crew SHÆLIN invite French indie dance act Samba Da La Muerte to put his spin on one of the EP’s most successful cuts – “Body”. Due for release on April 1st, the full “Ana Hata Extended” EP welcomes an array of uniquely talented voices to reimagine the compositions through their own musical lens. Teasing this highly-anticipated release once more, Samba De La Muerte unveils his remix of “Body” – out now across all streaming platforms.

Using music as a way to not only express themselves but to touch on and spread awareness for important social change-oriented topics, SHÆLIN’s message of hope, humanity and equality has defined the sonic identity and lyricism of their “Ana Hata” EP. Released in November of last year, the outfit’s included single “Body” presented a mantra of self-worth and body positivity, which was founded on the underlying theme of women’s rights.

Samba De La Muerte takes a stripped back approach with his edit that lets this fundamental narrative shine through. Serving as a contemporary take on soul and jazz, the remix hosts a succulent collection of musical references that exist in perfect harmony with its electronic-leaning character. Opening with an ethereal soundscape and a faint bassline, SHÆLIN’s poignant lyrics and organically dulcet vocals are put on full display. As the cut progresses, Samba De La Muerte flirts with afro-inspired beats and hints of syncopation, creating a joyful rhythmic synergy between his percussion and synthwork. With the added sonority and traditionalism of his injected piano phrases, De La Muerte has cross-pollinated some of the most seemingly disparate sub genres of music to create a rich composition with infinite intrigue and soul.

ABOUT SHÆLIN – SHÆLIN are a neo-soul crew weaving unique sonic masterpieces from an array of musical references. The group are inspired by the richness of African-American music (RnB, soul, hip hop, jazz, gospel) but also by musical horizons ranging to the traditional sensibilities of Reunion Music and Steve Reich. SHÆLIN represents the mixing of genres and traditions; offering a contemporary and soulful sound which breathes the joy of life and generosity. For the outfits’ six members, their diversity is a richness and their cross-pollination of culture and lifestyle, a celebration of love. Through music, words and dance, SHÆLIN carry a message of hope and unconditional faith; a humanistic and spiritual message that invites their listeners to (re)connect to our great world, to other beings, and to themselves.

The roots of the collective stretch from Mozambique to Martinique, passing through Italy, Cameroon, Reunion Island and Vietnam. Representing different origins, ages and backgrounds, they met in the city of Tours, in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Together, they create universal and unifying music. This crossbreeding is highlighted in the music videos produced and directed by SHÆLIN, and in the writing of their compositions, in which we hear English and Reunionese Creole.

ABOUT SAMBA DE LA MUERTE – For Samba De La Muerte, music is a medium through which we find our way in the world and subsequently even venture into unknown territories. The Normandy-based act has continued to pave the way for a new form of musical expression that is free from the pigeon-holes of categorization and borders. His music highlights spontaneity and rich instrumentation that transcends the electronic scape into something that is discernibly his own. Through his back catalogue of originals, collaborations and remixes, including his standout “Landmark” EP, Samba De La Muerte has pushed the limits of sound texture and design, defying format and context in order to feed himself and his audience with unique sonic experiences.
